AKRA RIZA
The essential answers about Akra Riza, our place, varieties, traceability and partnerships.
Akra Riza is a collective, grower-led olive oil company bringing together olive-growing families from southeastern Laconia under one shared philosophy and commitment to quality.
Akra means “the edge” — the cape, the last land before the open sea. Riza means “the root”: of the olive tree, of a family, and of a place. Together, they express the identity of a land where roots meet the edge of the continent.
From the groves of Vatika and the wider Malea Peninsula in southeastern Laconia – the southeastern edge of continental Europe.
Our olive oils are produced from four olives that reflect the character of this land: Athinolia, the distinctive local variety, alongside Koroneiki, Kalamon, and Wild Olive. Each brings its own character, whether expressed individually or as part of carefully selected blends.
Every harvest reflects the place and the moment it comes from. Across the micro-terroirs of Cape Malea, differences in soil, exposure, wind, and water availability interact with each olive variety, shaping the way the fruit develops and ripens.
Harvest timing matters too. Some olives are picked early, while still green, to capture a fresher, more vibrant expression of the fruit. Together, origin, variety, and timing give each harvest its own distinctive character.
